The micronutrient gaps you can't feel — and how to see them
You can hit your calories and macros perfectly and still be quietly short on magnesium, potassium, or vitamin D for months. Subclinical micronutrient gaps have no obvious symptoms — which is exactly why they need to be measured, not guessed.

Almost nobody can tell you their magnesium, potassium or vitamin K intake — and that is where the real, silent gaps live. A diet can look flawless on a macro spreadsheet and still leave you chronically short on nutrients that never announce themselves.
How common these gaps actually are
Reider and colleagues (2020, Nutrients) analysed US intake data and found large fractions of adults falling below the estimated average requirement for magnesium, vitamin D, vitamin E, calcium and potassium — often over half the population for magnesium and potassium. These are not exotic deficiencies; they are the default state of a diet built from convenience foods, and because the shortfalls are subclinical they produce no symptom you would connect to diet.
A subclinical deficiency has no symptom to warn you. The only way to catch it is to actually count the nutrient — which almost no tracker does.
Why most trackers can't help here
Counting micronutrients properly requires a food database with per-nutrient composition for every ingredient, not just macros — and honest handling of the fact that a branded takeaway meal has no reliable micronutrient data. Guessing produces confident-looking numbers that are wrong, which is worse than admitting the gap in coverage.
How Misi surfaces them

The practical takeaway
You cannot fix a gap you cannot see. Reviewing a month of the heatmap usually reveals two or three nutrients that are persistently red — almost always magnesium, potassium or vitamin D — and those become a short, specific food or supplement to-do list, rather than a vague sense that you should 'eat healthier'.
